The Chubby Light Bulb

The Chubby Light Bulb picture by Bes Z

Full version. Also on Flickr.

I noticed this in San Francisco. I am not sure if it was the weight that caught my eye, the width, the design, or simply its existence. I should probably avoid saying that the fatness caught my attention, yes? Or no? Regardless, I think, this picture was taken while climbing down a set of stairs. Or was it up? Ok, I am not sure anymore, though I know I stopped near the bottom of the stairs, or the beginning, and took this picture.

The shining circular light – an angle

The shining circular light - an angle

Like other things in life, it seems to be sitting in the same place all the time. A very circular, sophisticated-exterior owning of a light bulb. The cover on the outside does two things: add brightness in the surrounding area, and for anyone looking at the light, create a form of complexity that any observer can maybe admire and learn from.

When you are close to the light, you realize how dark other things around the light are, and how hard the light is working at making everything visible in a bit better perception around us. It made me wonder about a lot of things, including whether it was yellow light from within, or if the outer cover was yellow that transformed the original light into a new color. I wonder if the bulb inside feels lonely and wonders who may or may not be looking at it or thinking about it. At least now it will know that I thought about it. :)

A closeup of the spiral design of a spiral bulb

A closeup of the spiral design of a spiral bulb

A closeup of the spiral design of a spiral bulb. This was taken on June 24th of this year, 2006 in Anaheim, California.

I took a series of pictures that day of a single bulb fitted in a ceiling frame, with the bulb both turned on and off. The frame appears to a bit off in this picture, though it does capture the beauty of the light and design itself, including the strands of dust on the bulb. The bulb turned on produced better pictures than when it was off, probably because the camera could focus on the light close to its lend more easily than it could from the light it would catch all around the place had the bulb not been emitting such a bright light.

You can see many strands of dust and other particles on the bulb; these things are not visible without looking this close at bulbs. Try this at your home also; may be pleased with what you find.

Two spiral light bulbs in the dark

A view of two spiral light bulbs in the dark. These are the same bulbs as the ones shown in “Closeup of a spiral light bulbs“, and taken at the same time. This was taken on August 17th of this year, 2006, in Irvine, California.

The small lines on the bottom left area of the inside of the holder are scratches.
